Selsley Common, Stroud

Parks & Walks

Selsley Common is approximately 20 minutes from Cheltenham, by car. There are various, free parking areas along the common, we chose the first one on the left hand side as you approach the common (from the Woodchester side).

We walked towards the far side of the common to take in the amazing views (Ace was ecstatic that we could see the incinerator from up there too) and to read the information board. After that, I stayed towards the edge, while the children ran up and down the various hills and mounds. From the top, one of the children shouted that they could see a crater (dramatic much?) so we headed towards it and we were rewarded with a superb view of the famous Selsley dinosaurs! Of course, then we had to head into the crater ourselves and we spent actual hours creating stone names and climbing the trees and rocks down there.

Heading out of the other side, we continued along the footpath for a while, before looping back towards the car. This is a fab place for exploring with children, but you could also follow the footpaths to create a route if you're looking for a longer walk.
